When I think of the word 'Duet', two things comes to my mind, one is K.B's movie 'Duet' where ARR scored some evergreen numbers , other thing is any Male-female duet. For a change, I thought of listing Male-Male duets but got only few numbers.. let me know more songs in this category..

Favorite Hindi Songs

Since my childhood, the only hindi song i knew till my seventh standard was 'Ek dho teen'. Then ' Hum aapke hain kaun'.. I convinced everybody at my home to watch the movie..around 15 of them went.. none of us understood hindi that time..it was so funny..many places the title wud come in the dialogue and w wud ask each other ' atleast title ku artham enna'.. that was the second hindi movie i watched.. first was 'tezaab' wit my parents when i was in 3rd.. tat too some relative took us.. later i started watching lot of hindi movies n when we moved to bombay, there was no choice...pop albums were more fascinating than the movie songs..
Coming back to my favorite movie songs..
let me limit the count to 10 for now as thr r lots..
1.Ek dho teen(Tezaab).. simply loved it for madhuri's dance n the music
2. Pahla pahla pyaar hai(HAHK) - soothening romantic melody
3. Pahla nasha(KSKT) - After i saw the remix i downloded the original n watched.. great song..
4. Churaliya hai tumne() - I came across this song in music competitions.. then later in tv.. then became my altime favorite..hv sung tis in many places..
5. Yaayre Yaayre(Rangeela) - crazy abt tis song for rahman's music,urmila's dance, asha bhosle's voice n tat small kidoos part..
6. Raja ko rani se(Akele hum akele tum) - Aamir-Manisha pair was so beautiful.. i love tat cycle scene in the song..
7.Hum ko manki(guddi) - I watched this jaya bachan movie in DD, she was so cute.. n liked tis prayer song in 'Ameerkalyani' vry much..
8. Aye ho mere zindagi(Raja Hindustani) - tis song has got lovely lyrics.. again i heard first in my school music competition n later in movie..
9. o..mere ladki & Pyaar hua(1947,a love story) - o..mere ladki song was so popular tat time..anil kapoor was quiet smart.. and manisha's solo soong 'Pyaar hua chupkese' s a cute melody..
10.last but not the least , 'Mere sapnon ki Rani ' and 'Chandha hai tu' from Aradhana

I feel very disappointed about my ignorance in old hindi songs even though some very popular songs i download n listen to like kabhi kabhi, baharaon phool barsao,jeena yahaan..
From remixes i discovered some great songs n listen like dil kya kare, jhumka gira, o mere sona re, raat shabdnami, Piya tu, khata laga..
I still have a thirst to explore old hindi songs.. if anyone has some grt collections..gimme sum links..

Rahman Tamil Classicals..

ARR - World Renowned Music Director.. rolemodel for thousands of youngsters..

He has gained this popularity and recognition majorly through his fast peppy numbers much westernized with different instruments, rare voices etc
When it comes to classical based numbers there r not as many as other types and i thought of picking such classical melodies..
1. En veetu thottathil(Gentle Man)- This song sounds very familiar to Arunagirinadhar's 'Nada vinthu kalaadi namo'.. a very nice duet though..the humming in the beginning speaks the raaga of the song, 'Senjurutti'.
2. Kannodu kaanbadhellam(Jeans) - Lovely song in the raaga 'Abheri' excellently rendered by Nityashree.. another 'Abheri'song tat comes to my mind is 'Singara velane deva'(super challenging number) by S.Janaki..
3. Narumugaiye(Iruvar) - Bombay Jayashree simply rocks singing this number.. its in the raaga 'Naatai'.
4.Enna sonnalum ketka villai(Kadhal virus) - Sweet sangathis n brihas by harini made this song a hit though the movie was a flop.This is also of 'Senjurutti' raagam
5.Alaipayudhe (Alaipayudhe) - A keerthana by Uthukaadu venkata subbiar made to a cine song in the 'kaanada' raagam also sung by harini.
6.Minsaara kanna(Padayappa) - Competition song b/w rajini n ramya krishnan sung by Srinivas and Nityashree.
7.Sowkiyamaa(Sangamam) - Songs in this raaga(Maandu) are quiet rare. i can think of only 'Oru naal podhuma' by Dr.BMK sir.. if anyone can think of more cine songs in this raaga plz post.

Singing..

I think of those childhood days when i used to sit in front of my first music teacher(Mrs.Mohana,my relative) and repeat whatever she sang.. those times i never concentrated on raga,shruthi,..nothing. just listened to her singing and repeated it back..i used to even doze off when singing.. also hit my face against hers..:) but the beauty is when i was nt aware of these technical things, i made less mistakes,..anyway now i realize how much it takes to sing a krithi.. not only krithi,also varnams,thillana,..carnatic music or any song..
I believe the foremost thing that decides the splendor of a song is shruthi..if one is able to uphold the same shruthi throughout the song whichever raga he sings, he is identified as a good singer.. Then another essential thing is Thaalam.. Songs with adi taalam n roopaka thaalam are much easier to sing than in taalas like misra chaapu.. there are some krithis where the lyrics just fit into the thaalam.. one tat comes to my mind is bhogindra shaayinam(kuntalavaraali).. a lovely fast krithi.. but some really prove a challenge...
Next i feel control over the breath is very essential.. In many cine songs, we hear the hmm.. breathing sound of singers , most prominent s harini's..does the MD's purposely do it to give it a feeling or something?? If the singer breathes loudly in improper places,swallowing the lyrics, the charm of the song s definitely lost..
Bold singing is something which i had to correct myself on and feel am improving....Perfect example is SPB sir.. all his songs can be identified easily as in his voice s unique n bold..be it ilaya nila or megam kottatum or vannam konda... evry one shud hv their own style of singing.. n shud nt imitate any particular singer . I loved the way Krishnamurthy(Airtel super singer) sang.. he sang so many challenging numbers excellently in his amazing voice..
Pronounciation also plays a grt role.. I hate some northy singers like sadhana sargam , shreya goshal who spoil the beautiful tamil language like anything evnthough they have lovely voice.. why r nt the music directors correcting them.. thr r so many talented properly pronouncing singers in our state only.. i agree tat they r really great singers..but y spoil our language.. i feel we should not give up our language for big shots singing thm..

Kaadhal songs

How many songs begin with love..the word "Kaadhal" 30,40,..

The foremost tat comes to my mind moment i think of is "Kaadhal Rojave" from the movie ROJA.. Such wonderful BGM n lyrics...legend SPB rokzz in this song.. video of this is incredible.. i always thought the movie cud hv had a female version for this song sung by chitra.. So i begin here..

I was not blogging for 8 months since i took a break to welcome my son to this world.. he is five months old now.. sweet naughty lil one.. he enjoys his mom singing to him.. i sing a variety of songs(classical,movie numbers,nursery rhymes,bhajans,hindi songs) with lot of expressions to attract his attention.. later i stop those expressions and sing only the song and he is hooked to the song..
